I posted this on the official fw thread but it never got a response,
so I'll try my chance here.
A friend of mine bought a sony vaio fw140D.
For me the first setup of the laptop went flawlessly.
About 10-15 minutes and I was running with my laptop.
On the other hand, for my friend it went terribly. It took about 3 hours after the initial reboot of vista to be able to access vista. It was configuring itsel for that long.![]()
Now her fan makes loud noises when she opens her laptop.
Does something like this happened to any of you and does the country or language you choose at the beginning of the booting of vista can be a cause?
She is seriously thinking about an exchange, she's still in the 14 days return period.

about the loud fans. My fw's fans kick into full blast when I turn it on(from sleep) most of the time. I heard most fw's do that. As for the initial reboot taking 3 hours? I have never heard that before, the country or language set up is not suppose to affect the reboot by that long. How are programs running on the fw? If exchanging it wont be a hassle then she might want to do that just to have peace of mind. I know I would. If I spend alot of money on something, i expect it to be perfect. Just my $0.02

To be honest, 3 hours as omega05 pointed out is excessive.
So there is something wrong.
I reinstalled Vista a few times on my mothers Medion laptop and my SZ, it never tookt that long to configure.
Sure, it does take a while, longer than XP I think, but not that long.
So I can only cincur with omega05:
If it isn't too much of a hassle, have it exchanged or repaired under warranty.
