My wife has a VGN-FW235J which my one year old pulled off the desk and onto the floor. It fell squarely on the left screen hinge, right where the plug goes in. Not only did it break the hinge but it also broke the male pin which is inside the plug hole.
I bought it at Best Buy but chose not to get the service protection because I have USAA (up to $3000 protection on all computers for $8/month).
I have to send it to Sony Repair in San Diego. Has anyone had any experiences with them? They said it would take about a 7 day turn around but I don't believe that. It will probably take that long just to ship it.
Anyway, thanks in advance for any input. I don't mind hearing good or bad experiences, just as long as they are experiences and not conjecture.

This thread might give you some clue on how good the repair center is

I would say most people have had good experiences with them
I myself, sent my laptop in for repair a few months ago, I got the laptop back within 5 days (and I live in Kentucky! which is pretty far away from California)
The laptop came back in perfect condition, they cleaned and polished my laptop for me, and gave me a free screen cleaning clothe!
They also accidentally left a DVD movie in my laptop..... i guess they were using my laptop to watch movies.. lol
