Hmm, a question what are you using MSI AfterBurner for? Is that where you are actually overclocking and the BIOS only enables you to change the clocks? Or are you just monitoring in it?

What I would like is for the graphics cards highest clock to be set to something higher than stock without any software having to be run after each startup, I want to do a one time thing and then be able to even uninstall any software I did not have before. I also want the card to work as before when it comes down to being shut off at Stamina mode and downclocked when not used in Speed mode. I'm just trying to figure out if this is what the BIOS mod is achieving.

In Speed Mode, do not run MSI AB or GPU-Z by itself. But you may run both of them at the same time.

In Stamina Mode also the same, do not run MSI AB or GPU-Z by itself. But you may run both of them at the same time.

Anyone with Stock BIOS can confirm whether this happen as well?
Or could it be because of the MOD?

Yup, now my MSI AB also act the same as the GPU-Z.
Can you try run both MSI AB and GPU-Z at the same time on Stamina Mode and see whether the battery get 10 or 5 hours?
You may also try running 2 instance of GPU-Z while on Stamina Mode.

    Thanks.

The MSI AB is just for monitoring.
Well you can also use it to OC, but it only works for the Memory OC, GPU Core Clock won't do a thing.
Other than that, it is just for monitoring.

While GPU-Z is purely for monitoring only.

If you don't have or run any of them, you should be fine.
Your clock will remain in idle(135) when doing nothing.

Thanks for all the info. I might try it later on when the links are released by the modder :). As long as I can get my great battery life in Stamina mode even after the mod im happy.

This is just literally with MSI AB running. No overclock, no settings changed, just monitoring

You may try the 900MHz and 1000MHz MOD that I created.
Coz I'm not sure when will svl7 share the previous MOD link.

With just MSI AB running, I'm staying at 950mhz, at least by looking at the OSD core clock. Some games have managed to throttle the gpu down to 135-570mhz but I think I didn't adjust the NCP settings or the temp. got a bit hot.

I've got an S13P on order which should hopefully arrive next week. I was very pleased to find this thread and with it the prospect of more power (great work by the modders)!

Anyway, the reason for the post is that I'm tempted by the £5 flash sale for LA Noire on Steam but unsure whether the S13 would be able to run it at decent settings and fps pre/post OC? If anyone has the game and I'd appreciate some info on their experiences.

Generally more real world benchmarks would be very interesting if anyone could oblige.

I heard bad things about the PC port of LA Noire. There's plenty of other games you can get from the Steam Summer Sale which work well on this laptop though.

I see that Stalker: Call of Pripyat is on sale today. I'm debating picking that one up just because of the powerful benchmarking tool that game can optionally use. I played the original Stalker years ago and didn't like it all that much but there just aren't very many games these days with good benchmarking tools.

Thanks for the reply, will probably give LA Noire a miss then.

I've been out of PC gaming since 2007 so I've gone a little nuts in the current Steam sale. So far have got Bioshock 2, The Walking Dead Series, The DoubleFine Pack, Company of Heroes w/expansion, Dear Esther and all 3 Stalker games. Total spend about £25. Should keep me going for a while even without LA Noire!

Im running 950/1000 as well. 1000 mhz i got instability in World of tanks. 950 looks rock stable.
Im running 4 monitors total (2 on dock, 1 on vga and notebook screen) with toshiba dynadock and everything works just perfectly.
1.5 hours of WoT i got maximum temperatures 78C for CPU and 73C for GPU.
My cooling priority is set to balansed. I felt that "priority to ventilation" was too agressive and not really needed. During 1.5 hour gaming GPU never throttled down.

The newer versions of gpu-z allow you to either just run the downloaded .exe file or install the program so it shows up in the start menu. I use the former.

My clocks idle at 135/405, but when i open gpu-z they jump up to 1000/1000. After 5 seconds or so they drop back down to 135/405. I dont have afterburner installed either.

    I see.
How instability does it get? Other than that?
Need more input from you guys.
Actually we are running it on a low voltage than the usual.
    A GT650M runs at 950MHz on 1.0250v (while ours run on 0.925v)
A GT650M runs at 1005MHz on 1.0370v (while ours, again MAX on 0.925v)

In a way, it is a good thing because we are getting a GT650M DDR3 performance while running on a low voltage(undervolting). Less heat, less power usage.
But this also means that we might face instability if it actually does requires more than 0.925v.

    Haven't try that yet.
    Will give it a go.

    Thanks.

I will note that after 45min on Spec Ops: The Line, I had some artifacting in one scene. Like fruity pebbles tossed at my screen. Then it flashed once and continued to work well, still running at 950mhz. However, some others shooters I play sometimes also blink once before functioning well until I'm done playing.

I've been gaming BF3, Portal 2, and Saints Row 3. All have been running great with the 900MHz mod, no instabilities, just alot of fan noise.

Somewhat unrelated, I was noticing a fair amount of fan noise while idling in STAMINA, and I found that Origin was using a ton of CPU, and keeping my GPU at full speed. After I force closed it, things cooled down (I had to force close it, it seemed to have crashed in the background). Later, I was monitoring my idle, and I saw a steady 4-7% usage from audiodg.exe, and I traced it back to the Dolby Advanced Theatre v4. When I put it back to the default (and ONLY other option...) which is xLOUD/Clear Phase audiodg.exe usage dropped signicantly and my computer began to idle nearly silent like it did out of the box.

When I first posted about this issue I mentioned that I was experiencing the same thing as everybody else, on a unmodified bios so I'm sure the mod has nothing to do with this. It was then that I decided to try the mod out, and I'm glad I did, the install went very smoothly and now so do my games :)

Sony must be rubbing there hands! I know were never know but would be interesting to know how many extra Sony S series have sold because of this thread and ones simliar and how many less sagers. After lurking around these forums for 3 weeks trying to decide on my next laptop, countless times I almost clicked on the "Buy" button for the Sager 6110. The Sony was ideal with the larger screen but never quite powerfull enough compared to the smaller 11". Sure it now though thanks to Amals bios mods.

    Wierd thing what i noticed.
My asus scores more on 3dm11 GPU points with same clocks. Compared to my S15.
Sony is not throttling or anything but Asus is just faster.
According to GPUz, 640M LE also uses a bit of dynamic memory. It should not use it. Hopefully its a bug or it just shows intel igp using it on the backround.

    Care to share more details?

Based on your scores from your signature :
    GPU (835)950/900 P2387 GPU 2176
    [IMG]

But based on Faceless Rebel running on 950/1050
    [IMG]

Basically it is 950GPU/900MEMORY vs 950GPU/1050MEMORY.

Scores looks about right I guess?

Perhaps was some test error then. But i ran the test twice with identical GPU clock and got lower score.
However i used the newest beta drivers on my S15, while Asus had older version of drivers. S15 got around 100p lower gpu score in same clocks compared to Asus. I didnt take the picture tho.

Sata3 speeds are likely not defined by bios. I flashed same HDD bios to my raid0 SSD S15 and there was no change whatsoever. Im still getting same speeds on my drive. Close to 1GBs of sequental read speed.
It could be some physical limitation on HDD versions of S.

    Hi Amal77

Amazing stuff you and svl7 did. Kudos. Btw, would it be possible for you to send the stock BIOS "R0142C5-KeplerMod_STOCK.zip" you uploaded on rapidshare? Unable to download from there.

    Thanks.

Hi guys. I'm about to pull the trigger on a SONY Vio s13p and I was wondering if you could tell me how "easy" this is for a person new to laptop software. Is this a mod that will become easier and more widspread over the next 6 months, so that during christmas break from law school I can sit down and get it done quickly? Otherwise I might be looking for a different laptop. thanks!

Did you read the instructions? It's literally, download the file, unzip it, and double click flashing app. Registering on a web forum such as this one requires more steps :D Couldn't possible get any easier other than having one of us going to your house and doing it for you :p

True true, but I saw that if I do this I'd void my warranty. Is that correct? I'm looking for a solution that might be able to keep my warranty as I'm pretty noob at computers and it's going to have to get me through 3 years of law school without breaking.... I dunno I trust the modder, I just don't trust myself!!! I'm pretty good at hardware, changing thermal paste, etc. But software I'm a huge noob.

That is correct if you ship your notebook to RMA with modified bios on.
Theres always option to flash back original bios unless your notebook completely brokes.
