I just recently opened up my laptop, VPSCB190X, to clean out the dust. Everything works except the following items which I think are related:

Power LED is faint, still charging though.
Most of the keyboard doesn't work.
Num, Scroll, Caps lock lights don't toggle on/off.
Wireless LED off even though I have internet.
Switchable graphics no longer works. Stuck in Speed Mode.
    SDD LED doesn't work.

I have tried reconnecting the keyboard ribbon cable but I only get back a few keys. The rest don't work.

Can someone suggest what else I should be looking into?

    Thanks.

Looks like the ribbon that connects the keyboard also sends feedback from all the other user interface switches/keys.

Not much you can do but try to re-connect the ribbon again and make sure there is nothing stopping it from making good contact. If you have damaged the ribbon then you will have to replace it if that part is even available, if not I guess you will have to buy a whole new keyboard assembly which I can't imagine would be that expensive but I don't know where you would buy it.

I did a search and found this store: Sony VPCSB190X Parts : AU PC Parts, AU PC Parts :: Notebook PC Parts - They don't have a picture of the actual keyboard but list it as an item. You could google search: "VPCSB190X replacement keyboard" see what comes up in your area.

If you have damaged the actual connecting part on the motherboard then that could be expensive.

If not, you may want to take it to your biggest local Sony Shop, they normally have a tech shop that can look at fixing this for you and give you a quote.

That's what I'm worried about. At one point I had all the keys working but the spacebar, esc, and the switches. So there is no other cable I should be checking. It all goes through the keyboard ribbon?

Not sure mate, but it looks that way. If I was you, I would be looking for Youtube disassembly videos of your laptop to double check you haven't missed anything but going from your account of different keys working at different times, it sounds like a connector problem.

Yep check ribbon cable connector, you might have broken it. Don't use Sony warranty as they charge you 120€ for it. You can fix it yourself as ribbon cables usually cost ~1€ piece (ebay)

Since my quick buttons/switchable graphics/LEDs don't work along with the keyboard and the previous responder said it was all from the one ribbon cable... what are the other smaller ribbon cables used for? I have probably a 5-10pin ribbon cable coming from the switchable graphics PCB and from the power/quick buttons PCB. I never removed them put they don't work now. So does that mean its just this one large ribbon cable?

Anyone familiar with my particular model or one like it?

Pohmell: I have never used Ebay before and I am having some difficulty location this ribbon cable for 1€. Can you point me in the right direction? Do I need a specific ribbon cable or will any generic Sony cable work?

    Thanks in advance :)

So I looked into this some more... I can't just replace the ribbon cable because the ribbon cable is attached directly to the keyboard if that is the problem. What else could potential be not plugged in which would cause the keyboard to fail? I only cycled the connection of the ribbon cable one time and it "broke"?

After doing a search for a replacement part, I found some that were similar but none specifically for my laptop. Can I just use any US Vaio S keyboard? Anyone know of a good site to find things like this?

Did you ever figure this out? I have a similar problem - no keyboard backlight or power LED but everything else works =/
