The fan on my Sony Vaio S15 is dead and needs to be replaced. I tried opening the laptop but couldn't figure out how to get to the fan, does anyone know how to do this? Also does anyone know where I can buy a fan from for this laptop?

I just found out that Sony have discontinued laptops, will they be able to replace the fan or laptop?

Look for the disassembly guide for your model. Typically, the motherboard needs to be lifted up and turned over - only then does the fan become accessible. At least, that is how it is with my model.

For all you know, the fan might not be dead, just jammed solid like mine was. I dismantled it - the rotating part lifts straight up off the shaft/ bush - cleaned it, put grease on the shaft and put it all back. That was about two years ago. Still going strong, although I have had to do this every six months or so.

Warning: the fan blades are brittle; don't break them. Also, you might need to take off the heatsink when you do this, so be prepared to replace the thermal paste. I'm using cheap generic white paste - no problems.
