I Received my Sony Vaio S15 2 days ago, but only just set it up now on my 22" HD Monitor, and when I move the mouse its lagging quite a bit, and when I load applications is slow, its on windows 8 pro 64 bit

for example when I click on "My computer" it takes about 5 seconds for it to load up, I was expecting it to load up instantly as soon as I click on it.

Does anyone know what is causing this?

For a 3.2GHz Turbo boost i7, its really slow for my liking.

    any advice would be appreciated

    thanks

That is not normal. Even if you use a HDD and not an SSD it shouldent be that slow.
Something is for sure wrong. Have you reinstalled the computer? Or is it as it was when you recived it?
Try doing a HDD bench mark and also a 3d bench mark. Also you can try running the windows experience bench mark.

I haven't reinstalled windows, I set it up 2 days ago and then decided that windows 8 was too complicated to use with a trackpad, so I waited untill my monitor arrived today, and connected it all up and just started using it, and found that it was lagging quite a bit. I'm not sure if its caused by all the junk sony have pre-installed on it although I haven't got round to trying all the apps out yet.

I changed the way I had my screen set up,

It was set to "Extend these displays" with my monitor as the main display and the laptop as the extended screen, and I changed it to "Duplicate these displays" which seems to have improved the mouse lag significantly.

Although that brings me to my next question, can this laptop not handle a dual monitor set up with one as the extended display without lagging like crazy?
