I couldn't find anybody with the same problem. Fans are not an issue when I'm working on S15 that much, but HDD is spinning so loud I can't concentrate :O. I cant even have a Skype call, because it's unbearable for the person on the other side. I recorded some and I'm really fraking out, This is not even that loud, the hosting site somewhat reduced the noise, but I guess you will understand what I mean: (video) (while recording I had everything turned off besides win8 camera app, fan was silent).

I'm not sure what to do; should I get it back to Sony? I didn't see any flaws to the HDD work so I don't think they would want to do anything. I really cant handle stuff like this is in a newly bought laptop. I guess I can sell it, but even before doing so I'd like to look into the matter so the next possible owner will get the idea of what he's/she's buying. I was thinking of just buying a SSD drive but then I thought why should I pay even more because they installed a jet engine instead of hdd (I don't really care for ssd speeds in this computer, I just want a decent hdd performance..).

Thank you in advance for your feedback!

I have the same problem. Since I use a SSD in place of the hard drive, I originally thought that by installing the 'jet engine' into the DVD bay would perhaps shield off some of the noise, but I was mistaken.

If you don't intend to resale your laptop, then my advise would be to backup the recovery partition and swipe it clean, afterwards just eBay it and get yourself either a 5,400rpm (as I would) or a quieter 7,200rpm storage drive.

That definitely isn't normal. My 500GB 7200 is whisper quiet. Can you return it?
