    Hi,

I'm new here but have been reading a lot recently since I'm looking for a new 13" laptop. I actually ordered a Studio XPS 13, but canceled it because of the DPC Latency problems.

Sorry if the questions I'm about to ask has already been answered, but I didn't want to dig through the 200+ pages SR thread  .

Does anyone here know if the Sony Vaio SR series is ok with DPC? The test utility can be downloaded here: http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml

A screenshot of the result from a Vaio SR owner would be really helpful!

Some other questions regarding the SR:
    • What is the difference in battery life between the radeon 4570 and 3450 models?
    • Is it "easy" to replace the CPU? In Sweden, you either get a radeon 4570 with T6400, or a 3450 with P8600. Stupid!
    • Every spec I've seen for SR's with radeon 3450 have had a maximum memory spec of 4GB. Is it impossible to upgrade to 8GB eventhough the Chipset seem to support it?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello!

I really don't know what is DPC Latency, but I've made a screenshot for you on Sony Vaio SR190VRN T8400 ATI 3470 4Gb RAM.

    Thank you very much!

The Dell Studio XPS 13 has serious problems with this sort of "Deferred Procedure Calls", and this can in some worst case scenarios give you glitches while listening to mp3's. Trying to do music production on a machine with DPC problems is impossible, from what I've heard, since it requires very low latencies.

Your screenshots looks promising! A lot better than that of the Studio XPS's, which may look like this:

Have you done a fresh OS install or are you running the (bloated) installation from Sony?

It looks ok enough for me to buy one. If I'm lucky I could tweak it down some more. Thanks again for testing this! I love this community! :)

    Hi!
I've made a clean install of Vista x64 to take advantage of 4 Gig RAM, which actually took almost two days, because it was really hard to force all Sony stuff to work. :(

Talking about glitches while listening to mp3, I think I've heard some under heavy system load on 'out of the box' system (before reinstalling Vista), but after increasing output device buffer, they were gone. Think, that you need at least one more confirmation, that SR will be good for you, from someone else.

    PS Sorry for my English.

    Vaio SR41M with Radeon 4570 / T6400 / 4GB RAM / Vista Home Premium 32bit clean install.

I was running Firefox, Winamp, MSN Messenger & Outlook 2007 on the background while testing.

It's not as bas as the Studio XPS, but it could be a little bit better. If anyone's got the time, could you try to disable the WLAN card and see if it improves?

    Thanks again!

What does this measure, and why is it important?
