Has anyone used the VGA out on the Vaio SR, especially for higher resolution monitors? How clean or sharp is the signal? I am thinking of getting a larger monitor for desktop use and maybe a dock, although I don't know if the Sony docks include DVI or HDMI output. edit: nevermind, they don't.

The dock includes DVI input. but, FYI, you can get a vga to dvi cable for much cheaper. Anyways, if you look on the internetz there is a significant amount of information pointing out that VGA(analog) is not any worse in picture clarity/quality than digital, this is a common misconception. Analog can look just as good. Also, with VGA or DVI, you will not be getting sound. Only via a HDMI port on the notebook or perhaps a dock with a equipped hdmi port will you get sound/image output. The VGA will absolutley work on a large monitor, i've used it on 36 inch television sets on my old thinkpad R52, granted the x300 could not show games/high res video, it still worked. Anyways, for your needs a VGA or DVI port will be just fine for a large monitor.
