    Hello everyone,
I have a really quick, and i think newbie question. I have Vaio SR29VN, and i want to buy an external monitor and connect it to the laptop. But i'm wondering, should i buy a docking station, or i can do just fine without it ?
I mean, can i use the HDMI port, or the VGA one alternatevely, to connect the monitor to the laptop and use it for games/movies and etc. Thank you in advance. :)

Sony Vaio SR29VN has widescreen 13.3” X-black LCD display with LED technology which delivers intense contrast and exceptionally true-to-life colour. I think that is enough for playing games and watching movies on it.

I think in your case docking station is unnecessary. You'll do fine with VGA or HDMI if the monitor/TV you buy has the port. Docking station is more for extra ports beyond VGA, when you connect many things to the laptop and don't want to disconnect it every time you take your laptop away.

definitely use the hdmi out on the laptop, it works great. one thing though, you will want to toggle the laptop display off (fn+F7) and only output to hdmi because the laptop cant display both resolutions correctly at the same time.

I output my sr290 to my 1080p lcd tv and it had no problem outputting the 1920 res.

So i should definetely aim for a monitor that has a HDMI port on it, not a VGA or DVI ? :)
Thank you for your post by the way, very constructive :)
