I too have a Sony Vaio with Win 8 and wanted to create a disk image with bootable disk for emergencies. I found out that on UEFI boot, I couldn't boot from any cd/dvd - I had to change to Legacy boot to do so. To boot back in to Windows 8, I have to change back to UEFI boot - as you have found. To change from one to the other, do the following:
    1. Shut down the computer
    2. Start the computer by pushing the "ASSIST" button. Do NOT use the power button.
    3. The computer will start and load a menu giving you the option to load BIOS or boot from an optical or USB drive amongst others.
    4. Select the BIOS option
    5. Once the BIOS screen appears, go to the boot options and change "Legacy" to "UEFI"
    6. Press "F10" to save the change and exit.
You can now reboot into Windows 8

Switch back to UEFI and it will boot again unless you deleted boot partition.
