Hi, I have been using my Sony Vaio SZ for almost two months now, and I must say I am more than satisfied with my purchase, even though little things like the battery life and the temperature it runs at don't exceed expectations. I have however enjoyed the ability of plugging in my old monitor into the VGA port, and having an extended screen.

But, I have found that Windows Vista doesn't seem to want to remember the way I want to orientate the screen, and continuously reverts back to the previous setting on every restart. This is when I'm in speed mode, and using the Nvidia card. I am very curious to know how I would be able to help Vista remember which way I want the screen to be orientated (my monitor on the left, laptop on the right, and my laptop being the main monitor), and I have tried both the Windows settings and the Nvidia control panel settings.

I have also found that switching between stamina and speed mode, the graphics cards tend to like to do different things. For example, the Intel card does an amazing job at remembering the orientation, and even when I unplug the VGA cable, it doesn't try to revert back to one monitor. When I plug it back in, my monitor instantly lights up and it's still usable.

In speed mode on the other hand, when I unplug the VGA cable, Vista automagically reverts back to one-monitor mode, and when I try to plug the cable back in it either doesn't do plug-and-play, or takes a while do to so. I have a feeling that it's because of the Intel graphics software, but I'm not sure.

All help is appreciated, thanks so much.

    Regards,
    Snoopster J

My girlfriend's HP TC4200 did the same thing. Very aggravating. Even when saving the settings it would not go back to what we'd set it even when reloading the profile (saved name profile.)

Eventually a new driver got it to remember and be able to load the saved profile, but we've never been able to get it to recognize a 2nd display and automatically load that profile. The best we were able to get it to do was save all the settings and allow her to pick them.

I'd say you have a lousy driver and you either should load the latest or complain about the problem and hopefully Nvidia will fix it eventually.

    snoopster..

i have the same exact problem, down to where i want my monitor located.

funny enough though.. in the last couple weeks with the vista updates i have installed, where my monitor has to be located (in order to not have to tweak settings constantly) has switched from the right, to the left, and now back to the right.

i wish this issue would be corrected.

Try turning off TMM. I have an SZ6 on Vista and it always remembers my settings. There a few threads on this issue.
