Recently purchased a sony vaio sz 280. I love it. but, the screen tends to scratch when laptop is closed and you press down on the front cover like when you pick it up. (particularly around mouse pad). I heard you can get a square spongy material that you can place between your screen and keyboard when closed. Anyone know where? Link?

This is more soft than spongy, but you can protect your screen with this. The 14" version is ideal for the SZ because it will cover the whole area of the laptop including the bezel.

Are you just worried about this or this has happened with your SZ? I have not hear any complaint by other SZ owners in the Forum?

I know, the screen is 13.3" but the extra size of the 14" is to protect the bezel as well. Not that the bezel needs to be protected, it's just that the 14" size should fit the whole area of the laptop so you'll never have to worry about positioning it the right way as you need to do with a cover that's only as big as the screen.

Actually the 14" size won't even be enough to cover the whole area. The exact measurements are 12 x 8.5 inches or a 14.7" size. You can create and purchase that custom size here.

I got an iSaver that is meant for the macbook, it fits the SZ screen perfectly being just a tad larger than the screen. You could just as well use that red stuff that came with the laptop and cut yourself a fitting pice of that. It's a common problem with very slim notebooks that the keys touch the screens and may scratch it or make it dirty. The S4 of my father has the same problem. Those very soft display saver thingies are pretty ok, you can use em to clean up the the laptop when needed too.

    I'm really envious.

The SZ premium is bloody expensive and you're paying too much for the little extras they've thrown in...BUT it remains my current dream notebook.

I noticed my screen was scratched a few days ago after cleaning the screen. It is a small scratch that would be just about where the spacebar / mousepad area when closed. Definitely had me wondering why there weren't any other posts but now the thread has begun so I chime in. It scratches :).

You know what I do, I always keep a small rectangular microfiber cloth on top of that space to which many of you are referring. It's neat, because I can just close the lid on it, and it's firmly snapped in place. Also, it's neat to have on hand if you sweat from your palms, if you want to clean your biometric sensor/screen/cam.

Try that. I don't think a screen protector is necessary.
But, then again, OP bought the 280, so I think he's willing to spend 50 bucks on a piece of plastic :p

    Nuntius,

I keep thinking that you bought the overpriced 28 too...
    Which model did you buy?

    With regards to the topic:
I do the same thing as Nuntius...the cloth doubles as a screen cleaner as well as a protector. Very neat...

thanks everyone for the feedback. I have the 280, but fortunately, my work paid for it. Great computer, but yes, screen did scratch. small scratch that look likes corner of mouse pad. Talked to computer dealer and they said mac powerbooks used to have same problem. hopefully this gets fixed on future models.

    Hi Cowboy,

I was at the Apple Centre just two nights ago and I was extremely tempted to buy it.

But the issue was that they listed it as 13" as opposed to 13.3" so I was afraid that it wouldn't be compatible with the SZs.

I'm going to grab it now. Thanks for confirming the compatibility. :)

I love Apple accessories although I dislike their main products. *laugh*

Here is a case where the forum works well. I think I will buy a cloth also. Thanks for the tip!
