    Hello

I can't get the hotkeys brigthness, mute, volume +, volume -,... to work on Windows 7 RC. Same for S1 and S2 boutons

I installed Sony DLL Library, Sony Utilities, and Event Service which manage these feature. But it doesn't work. The drivers are installed, althougth thay are originally for Windows Xp, my Vaio SZ1Xp is quite old and Sony already cancel software support.

I have tried to install software update from newer VAIO version from the same serie (SZ5/SZ6), they work well under Xp, althougth I dont know if they are optimied for the SZ1 (especially the power management).

But with Windows 7 even the newest software version (for Vista) doesn't work. I find this strange because with other Vaio it seems to work according to some topics on this forum.

    Can someone help me?

    Thank you

    EDIT:
Even in the Windows Control Panel I don't have acces to the screen brightness adjustment in the Windows Mobility Center

Soony didn't cancel support for SZ1 laptops. You can find Vista drivers for your machine here.

Look at the update dates. All 2007 ;).

If I want a more recent version of "Event Service" for example, I have to download the ones for the SZ7. And I don't really knew if they are still optimized for the SZ1 (especially those for the power management, because cpu, gpu and chipset are from a different generation)

But that is not the question. I planned to update my laptop with Windows 7 when it would be available, but with this problem I'm asking me if it is the best solution.

So far I know not all SZ7 utilities work on SZ1. But for example SPIC and SFEP drivers for the newest Z3X series are from 2007 too. Just give a try.

I think it could and would be a good solution to update your laptop with retail Win7.
In the current stage it's still Beta called RC.

I have a similar issue with the Sony Vaio FE690 (Ancient, I know).

Well, using the newer SZ/FE890 drivers on the Windows 7 Beta (7000) enabled brightness and S1/S2 keys but volume did not work unless UAC was turned off.

Now, volume works fine but brightness does not work at all.

I think Sony's drivers are just shaky regardless of the OS >_<.

Hi, very interesting. I have just installed RC1 on my SZ3XP/C.
How did you get the brightness control? Witch drivers did you use?
    Thanks!

OK, I FINALLY got my fn keys to WORK!!! :)
Due to several tries I can´t give you a specific solution. But In the end I needed the driver for the two unknown(Sony Programmable I/O Control Device - ACPI\SNY5001 and Sony Programmable I/O Control Device(ACPI\SNY6001)) devies in the resource manger.
    The two driver are EP0000148802( http://dls.update.sony.net/pub/oth/64/EP0000148802.zip) and SPI-0603SZ31-ENG(try http://www.sony-asia.com/support/download/58144/product/vgn-sz34gp/sectionfirst?subpage=detail).

I have also installed Sony DLL Library, Sony Utilities, and Event Service in all kinds of versions...

    Let me borrow this thread..

I have a SZ61 model and latest W7 build, but I have problems with brightness controll in speed mode - did not test in stamina mode, because i need speed for my external monitor.

Now the fn keys do work with generic windows driver, but only untill screen gets turned off, this happens when I close the lid, for example...after that, brightness change no longer work.

I tried nevest nvidia drivers from laptopvideo2go page, got it to work even if i close the lid, but after i plug or deplug from power, it stops to work again!!

Any help on this one, did you manage to get it to work without this problems?
