Has anyone came across similar problem with the above laptop when the lid closes (the machine still on), an awful beep like a siren comes on. Is it some kinda of built-in security feature of Sony to deter would-be thief.

Is it just a short beep or is it continuous? Because I'm pretty sure (don't have my SZ in front of me right now) they all give out a short beep right before they suspend after you close the lid. If it's a continuous "siren" then there's something wrong.

thanks for taking the time to reply me.
it's a long continuious beep, and i believe it's something wrong with it.
so decide to bring it to the dealer to get it fixed.

    thanks

This happen, when the speakers are too loud and the Mic is on, too.
Then it is kind of a backfeed/Feedback, or an echo which makes this noise.

    Happened to me too, tho.
No worries. Just turn down the volume.
