Hello, I've got a sony vaio svs131190s running fine with windows 7 with custom bios 900/1000.

Everything was fine when I was on Windows 7.. No fan problem.

Now.. it runs full speed all the time.. I've gone through the upgrade tool twice.. updated bios with it and everything else.. I did it twice.. and it's going full speed.. I don't know what to do..

    Thank you!

I hate upgrades. Too many things break. Personally, I would recommend a clean install, formatting C drive in the process.

The fan speed is regulated by an embedded controller (a small microcontroller). A driver installed as part of the Sony laptop utilities handles communication between Windows and the embedded controller. Sometimes an upgrade (or other things) breaks this communication link.

    Some things to try:

    1. In power options, restore defaults for all the power profiles available. You can customise them again after the issue is sorted out.

    2. Uninstall and reinstall the Sony laptop utilities that are available for your model. See if you can find a clean install guide here for your model, and read the instructions on how to install these utilities, and then apply them to your system. (Note: I'm not telling you to do a clean install here; just uninstall the Sony stuff and reinstall it.) These are different for my model, so I'm not going into details; you need to read about them in the clean install thread for your model - which files, where to get them, which order to install them in, etc.

    3. Dig around in the DEP (data execution prevention) settings; sometimes, when a driver doesn't work as expected, Windows simply disables it, not realising that we need it.

    4. Dig around in the Program Files area where the Sony utilities are installed. Sometimes Windows 'forgets' where the drivers are and needs a nudge. Just browsing those folders sometimes helps it to remember.

Best of luck. Hope you manage to sort things out.

Well I didn't want to format C because of the recovery partition(In case it fail again..).. but well I guess I don't have any other choice.. Power option had no impact on fan speed at all... Still stuck at 100% speed... I'm back on windows 7... I'll do a backup of my hard drive configuration and partition then I'll try the clean install.

What's bothering me is the fact I followed sony instruction and It didn't work at all... Oh well. Thank you for your time~

    Edit ~~

Apparently, it seems I can't get my computer to use "fast wake up" feature.. I hate losing feature for no good reason..
