hi , my friend has a sony vaio which has switchable graphics. i tried installing the 195.62 drivers when NVDIA is activated but it doesn't work. I get an error. Do i need a special or something?

Which Vaio is it? (there is the old one and the new one)
What are the models of both of the GPUs?
For more info, you can check here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/342947-my-discoveries-vaio-z-s-hybrid-graphics.html -
its a vaio with X3100 and 8400M GS and T9300 processor.
-
oh wow.. that's very old. I think it's a model before the standard hybrid graphics.
What is wrong with the old drivers?
umm for that model, try some standard drivers. Install nvidia driver on speed mode, then restart and install intel on stamina mode.
otherwise there are always the official drivers: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/select-system.pl?DIRECTOR=DRIVER&PRODTYPE=24 -
its not that old... there are ppl here with similar configs but the only problem is that the old driver is like 100 series so very old.. need something more recent.

The Hybrid Graphics notebooks I know of use the 4500MHD or newer. Also, I edited my post above.

ok i've confirmed it.. Its an SZ model so can i use same drivers?
-
bump really need the info... i have the 195.62 drivers so is there anyway to mod them so they can work with SZ? Its SZ79GN... and the drivers are 101.0 series which is way too old so i really need help.

From what I know, for VAIOs with switchable graphics, Sony is using custom nvidia drivers. So you'll have to depend on the official Sony drivers or hacked drivers, official nvidia ones will not work.
Pros, do correct me if I am wrong. -
yes, the problem is that the official sony driver which i have is too old. I found an SZ driver which is 174 series which is better but for xp and not vista 32bit... so basically i need drivers for vista 32bit.
