There was a post in the last 2 days asking about using the US WWAN adapter with other network providers. A reply said the US SZ doesn't use a SIM card slot, the adapter itself is locked to the network. If that is he case then you won't be able to use it in the UK.

There should be a SIM card slot behind the battery. You need to remove the battery to see it. Check if there is one on your SZ.

Err... I don't think you'll buy HSDPA in the US, but rather EVDO. HSDPA is used in Europe, and EVDO in the US models.

*If* you could buy HSDPA in the US, it would work in Europe, but not in the US... which is why I doubt you'll be able to buy it in the US.

But to add to the hardware compatibility problem, the US model is also using hardware locked to Sprint, with no SIM slot.

The European models (with HSDPA) don't have locked hardware but you might find the software used to configure it is locked to whichever network Sony have a deal with (in the UK, it's T-Mobile)... so to use another SIM you'll have to find third party software to configure the connection and monitor usage, etc.

HSDPA is in the US, just not in SZ notebooks. You'd be best just getting an unlocked GSM/3G modem and using whatever SIM card you choose.

Thanks for that, I didn't know...

That's good news as it means I might be able to roam my HSDPA WWAN in the US if I travel there (albeit at an unbelievably high cost, I'm sure!). :)
