I'm considering a Vaio TT. I was wondering if it was easy to crack open and upgrade the CD-ROM drive to another hard drive instead. Since customizing a TT is hellaciously expensive and the hard drives they offer are slow and not big enough - I would rather supply my own parts than what they have in stock. Could you call them up and tell them not to add a second hard drive? Maybe get the one that has the option for three hard drives and tell them not to install a second hard drive, but install the CD-ROM too? - at least I think they offer a laptop with three hard drives - but that's with dual SSD drives - they might be a different size than a 2.5" HD.

I am also interested in upgrading my hard drive to a solid state in the TT. I dont now what size drive is in the TT but I think that it is a 1.8.

Search the TT thread, I think this issue was discussed... someone ordered a vaio with no optical drive and then put a 2.5" hard drive in, I can't remember if they had to try to find the right cable from someplace or if it had it internally. Note that I really doubt you can call up Sony and ask them to do anything custom that's not already a standard CTO option in your country.

Basically there's room in there for a 1.8" drive and a 2.5" or a 1.8" and an optical. & I'm guessing the dual SSD would probably fit in the space of a single 1.8" drive.
