Well, I went ahead and tested the strength of the Vaio TZ. It holds up pretty good except when it gets a direct blow with a corner of a tool case containing a ratchet set. (Funny thing is I broke the water pump and bent a trackbar in my Jeep the same weekend.. and broke my favorite pair of flip flops..)

Long story short, does anyone know where I can get a repalcement screen for this laptop? I travel alot and can't put up with losing it for the time it takes to send away for repair, so I'd rather do it myself. It's useable in the mean time, since there's only a 1x3/4 inch blob of dead pixels on the right side of the screen, but It would be nice to have a screen waiting for me when I get back from my next month long trip.

I know, I know, I'm terrible. My plan is to make a nice padded metal case for it now.. It'll still be Nice and small, but it'll withstand the abuse it goes through. I got this sucker to be ultra-portable, now I just need to protect it better.

Great, that looks perfect!! Let me know how the replacement of it goes. I haven't even looked into how to take this laptop apart yet.

Now to decide if I want to buy a new driveshaft for my Jeep for that much money, or if I want to replace my laptop screen.... choices choices.

Sweet, I'm starting to get *some* pixels back in the middle of the black roughly 1 inch blob.... There's still a visible crack going a few inches (visible only at odd angles, where I can see the backlight peeking through) into the screen from the corner, but that's not a problem. I wonder how many more of these pixels will recover......
