So, I'm looking to grab a vaio TZ series notebook. however, the US version has Sprint Broadband. This doesn't do much for me because I have AT&T and i'd rather not pay for another account.

The UK version has HSDPA which would be great.

My question is, does anyone know if the UK version of the laptop will work on US (specifically AT&T) HSDPA frequencies?? I can't seem to find which 3G frequencies will work with this laptop. I'm in Seattle and HSDPA blows away Sprint by far so i'd rather have that.

    anyone?

i know they're different, but a lot of phones can handle both US and overseas 3G frequencies, so why not laptops?

i haven't been able to find which frequencies this thing uses anywhere.

    Hi Guys,

Would any of you know if the new TZ91 includes the NTT Docomo hsdpa module in it's base model or is this an optional configuration?

From 16th of October Sony will put in the japanese models the WWAN built-in, so is an optional and i think you must subscribe the NTT Docomo to have it. Do you think it will be possible to unlock it and use it in Europe?

I'm sure eventually you can, but I would like to buy it then replace the NTT module with something that I know works in my own country, like a novatel mini pci express hsdpa module.

The advantage of getting a TZ pre-configured with hsdpa is that the simcard reader and antenna are already there, so it is easier to do a straight swap (I hope)

    Three answers:
    Conics says this:

    Q: "IS there internal HSDPA?
A: internal HSDPA is not possible, it requires signup to subscribe to NTT Docomo, there is no way to order it without this subscription service.
the device is locked to NTT, and software is Japanese. (you will be better off with a HSDPA express card)".

    Pricejapan sent me this e-mail:

"Sony accepts WWAN built-in TZ91 fron Oct 16th. I don't know whether it works or not in Europe.( we don't know about technical features.)"

    Dynamism sent me this e-mail:

"Japanese mobile carriers operate on CDMA networks and the WWAN option would only be usable on their networks and would be useless outside of Japan due to the incompatibility between CDMA and GSM tecnhology".

Is it possible that only in Japan can be used the WWAN?? In US and Europe we must wait the next refresh of TZ for having this option?

I think we should wait and see, what will be the offering after the 16th.

By the way, hsdpa is 3G/CDMA technology and not GSM.
