I have a Sony Vaio TZ190n which came pre-installed with Windows Vista Business. I used the guide on this forum to downgrade to XP. I am having one issue, everything else works. All drivers are installed. The one problem I am having is device manager shows 3 - Digital Flat Panel (1024x768) under monitor section. This is not allowing me to set the correct resolution on the monitor. When I uninstall all 3 monitor devices I can set the correct resolution. Once I reboot, device manager re-adds the 3 monitors and my resolution max is 1024x768. See picture below.

what driver is it using for each of the listed monitors?

also, instead of uninstalling all 3, try just disabling all 3. i know it's just a workaround, but better than nothing.

The solution is listed in another thread. Do a search. It involves uninstalling "Monitor" if I recall correctly. :)

    Hi Guys,

As a new TZ-150N/B owner, I believe I have found the best solution to the Windows XP Video Card driver problem mentioned in this thread.

I tried EVERY DAMN THING mentioned in this forum and still could not get my tz-150 to stay at 1366x768 resolution in Windows XP. Uninstalling the Digital Plat Panel, disabling them, tried Hardware profile, tried all kinds of weird drivers, messed with Regedit, nothing works.

After two days of installing Vista and then XP, then going back to Vista, then hating it and installing back to XP and tear all my hair off. I found the easiest solution.

I don't know why nobody mentioned this problem when downgrading their TZ-100s, are they all happy with their 1024x768 resolution on a 1366x768 screen?!

OK, enough ranting. You know if you install SONY's XP video card driver or the Intel's latest one, your screen will be automatically resized to 1024x768.

All you have to do is, go to Control Panel, System, Device Manager.

Right click on each of the three Digital Flat Panel (1024x768) devices in the Monitor category, and select "Update Drivers".

Choose "Install from a list or specific location", and then "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install", then click NEXT.

Voila, you will see two choice, one is your Digital Flat Panel (1024x768), and another one is a Plug and Play Monitor.

Choose the 2nd one, NEXT, and YOU ARE DONE!

do the same thing for all three DFP under the Monitor device category.

You can now choose the resolution 1366x768 in Display Properties, and restarting won't affect a thing : D

Damn sony could've told us. Have fun with you now slick and efficient laptop!

where is that guide youre talking about?
I'm about to downgrade a vgn-tz190n to XP, and want to make sure I'm prepared.
I downloaded everything off that FTP site above, but want to be assured that the internal ev-do card will work on XP.
    thanks

Thanks so much timevision, just "upgraded" to XP on my TZ130N/B and went to 1366x768 and when I restarted after installing the other drivers, was stuck at 1024x768, followed your guide and its at full res again.

Shouldn't have been that difficult though, god bless forums!

Ahhh so thats how you got your post count up to 125.
you should feel good about yourself for contributing so much to the thread.

I searched quite a bit, perhaps i didnt use the right terminology or didn't find it in the 69 page thread. Any help someone can offer is appreciated.

I don't know if any of you have an issue with Microphone or not? My Mic doesn't work any more using Windows XP.
I just installed some VoIP software and it wasn't working any more.
