    Hi all,
I purchased in December 2010 a Sony Vaio VCPF11S1E and it has always had a ferocious fan going all the time. But very recently (last month), I started experiencing lag in graphics and sound lag and stutter at the same time. it could be anything from mild; things running a little slower and sound being slightly stuttery, to full out lag where the laptop runs at maybe a cm covered by the mouse in 2 or 3 seconds and the sound screeching. I have also had the computer shut itself down a couple of times. I have Updated the BIOS and all the drivers and there is no change. I'm thinking clean it out by getting rid of dust maybe?
Also, after seeing someone elses post with temperatures for this laptop running at around 40oC decided I would do the same and found that everything except the Hardrives were near enough at 80oC. I can tell this is not normal at all. Any ideas on what I should do?

that's way too high! contact SONY and let them about the issue and ask them to fix it. there's something wrong with the cooling of your laptop.

I've been having this same exact problem for some time now, but I can't seem to figure out how to proceed. My temperatures aren't quite that hot, but they're above where they should be. How should I proceed? I greatly appreciate any help I can get!

check to see if there's any process using too much CPU in the background. if so, stop it or disable it from starting up once the OS boots. it could also be a hardware issue, but try the first method first.

Have you ever cleaned it's vents?

The picture shows CPU usage as 1% and ram ~30% which are normal.

One fan is at 6400 rpm and other one is 0rpm = dead??

I blew some dust out with canned air and it's running better, but mine also only shows one operational fan. The other is at 0rpm.
I'd like to open it up to get a better view at it and clean the dust out more thoroughly, but I've never opened a laptop before and am hesitant. I've built computers, but laptops are kind of a mystery to me, especially in how they fit together. :/
    What would you guys recommend?
Also, when running a game the GPU gets really hot really fast.

My theory is that you had 2 fans, one which cools down the cpu (processor) and other one that cools down gpu (graphics). Now the gpu fan broke and it would only overheat when you play because it's not being cooled.

Advice1: try not to play until you get it fixed because the heat will damage it sooner or later
advice2: watch disassembly video before taking it apart or ask an experienced friend to do it for you
advice3: replace the broken fan ( buy new one from ebay )
advice4: if you don't want to replace it, turn off or underclock the gpu unit totally.
