My Vaio screen went blank few days ago. I can see it my application faintly in a dark room which means that is something to do with the monitor.

I used the recovery disk to reformat & installed it as new and the screen was restored as normal. Then after 30 minutes it went blank again.

Can anyone help me? Is it the monitor or the graphics card?

    Thanks

Try hooking up your notebook to an external monitor laying around...see if it is still there. My guess is that the display will look fine, but you should check as that will rule out the GPU.

It sounds like the monitor back light is dying...which is not good.
