    Hello
I would like to ask about : VGN-AW11S/B
Is it possible to remove P8400 processor and replace it with T9600 or T9800 ?
And is it possible to remove 400GB HDD and replace with two 500GB HDD's ?

    Thanx

Yes you can upgrade the P8400 cpu to a higher clocked T9600/T9800. Just make sure to upgrade your Bios to the latest revision before ugrading the cpu, so that you can ensure the best chance of the cpu being recognized.
Also when removing the cpu, make sure to apply thermal paste to the new cpu.
When disassembling the laptop wear an antistatic band to keep your electronics safe from static electricity.

If the VGN-AW11S/B can support dual harddrives than two can be installed. Currently the fastest notebook drives are the 320gb 7200rpm drives, and the largest are the 500gb 5400rpm drives.
If you are set on getting a 500gb drive please do not get a 5k500, it will not fit. The 5k500 is a 12.5mm thick drive. Your VGN-AW11S/B only supports 9.5mm thick drives, so you can only use the Hitachi 5K500.B, Seagate ST9500325AS, or the WD WD5000BEVT.
The Samsung HM500LI is a triple platter 500gb drive which has very high seek times and a slower data transfer rate.
From the benchmarks given, the WD5000BEVT is the best 500gb 5400rpm drive at the moment, so you are best off with that for a high capacity drive.

It is also wise to note that the new 500gb 7200rpm drives are due by Quarter 1 of 2009, so they may be worth waiting for.

Both are upgradeable; replacing your processor may void your warranty. You can check Sony's site for any service manuals or the like if you need a step-by-step guide.

EDIT: Oop, K-TRON beat me to it :p

The highest capacity notebook drive at the moment is 500gb, so probably by quarter 1 or 2 in 2009, their will be probably be 640GB or 750gb laptop drives.

Are you sure it can support 8Gb of memory?

Crucial says it can only recognize 4Gb:
    http://http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=VAIO%20VGN-AW11%20Series

If it can support 8Gb, than the only memory it can use is 2 x 4Gb.
Your laptop has only two memory slots, so to get 8 gb you need to use two 4Gb modules.

If it only supports 4Gb, than the only configuration you can use is a 2 x 2Gb kit.

    Well Sony's website is contradictory.
In the Overview tab it says it supports up to 8Gb of memory (2 x 4Gb)

and on the Specifications tab Sony says it supports only 4GB (2 x 2GB):
    http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&categoryId=8198552921644588896&parentCategoryId=16154

Since you have a monetveina cpu, I bet it will support the 8Gb of DDR2 sodimm memory.

The only place to get an upgraded Bios is through sony's website.

If Sony doesn't provide the driver, then checkout the Device Manufacturer's website for drivers.
