I have a standard XPMCE dual core processor Sony Vaio VGN-FE550/G with 1.5GB of memory. The screen is beautiful & the processor & harddrive I/O are fantastic BUT, I can't get my Samsung HD 40" LCD TV to recognize output from the Vaio.
Also, I tried testing the external VGA output port with a projector - same problem BUT the only thing I got to project was the VAIO logo & no Windows desktop or icons.
I've tried multiple VGA cables, multiple resolutions, multiple settings in the Intel video driver spec screen - like dual monitor, solo external monitor, & extended virtual desktop - still nothing.
The Samsung LCD HD TV manual specs a manditory input res of something like 1378 x 780. I've spec'd the notebook to that res & triple checked my settings & the TV manual spec & still no recognition of that PC input path by the Samsung TV.
First I thought it might be the TV but with a very similar problem with the projector, I'm thinking the notebook.
Instead of spending hours on the phone with Sony support, I was waiting for video driver updates to be released. A new driver was posted at the Sony site & I applied it & all the other updates except the latest BIOS update.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Steve

Hi,
I had the same problem with my Sony Vaio VGN-FS295VP trying to use my SAMSUNG LE32N7 series LCD TV. This is a known issue with Sony notebooks and some patches must be downloaded and a setting changed on the notebook. To get it to work I installed the following upgrades from the Sony support site:
http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downloads/updates/updates.asp?site=voe_en_GB_cons
1) BIOS Update R0044J1
2) VAIO Event Service 2.3.00.08110
3) Sony Utilities 6.4.0.06290
The following setting is also required:
VAIO Control Centre --> Plug & Display --> UNCHECK Enable automatic output function i.e. DISABLE it.
Restart the Notebook. On having restart hit Fn + F7 to enable VGA output and the PC option should now be available from the source list on the monitor.
Hope this helps. Who would have thought so much would be required
