    hello

I am currently working on a 'Sony Vaio VGN-FS' and I would like to share some thoughts about it with you, people you are thinking to buy it

I would only state the negative points, as these are important imo (we ll see later for negatives)

    keyboard
first of all the keyboard is absolutelly crap, one of the worst I ve ever seen in laptops. you have to pressure alot to click a key and the distance it takes to go down is very long, which both characteristics make it not work flawlessly at all. after few weeks of work you will notice the 'enter' and other oftenused keys to go right-left and become unstable in their position on keyboard

    touchpad
the touchpad is ok, kinda precise, but there is a major bug: if you want to drag n drop for a long distance and your finger go to the edge of the touchpad, the drag n drop selection stays there, it doesnt move by its own (which does in many other laptops, as the touchpad recognizes that you want to still go further but the touchpad space is over)

    materials
the whole feeling of its materials is very poor. all of it is of crappy plastic, I doubt they could find lower quality plastic to use (maybe the lowest, just below Sony Vaio VGN-FS, is Negroponte 's laptop). the colour is a mat white-grey, imo so awful. I could say the whole appearance is emetic regarding other laptops design and the abilities that technology has enabled manufacturers (aluminium etc)

    screen
the screen is ok, I havent nothing to notice, its glass view (becareful, this although its supposed to be a 'brand new evolutonary' technology, it may NOT appeal to some people 's eyes) its brightness is not as much as I wanted it, but over all its ok

    cd-dvd driver
the cd-dvd driver is ok as for its function, but it is ready to break after few open-close, its very weakly connected to the whole system

    noise
as for the noise, the fan is contantly spinning: this for some is good, for others is bad, its good that you have a constant noise that you can get used to it, but its bad that this laptop does never shut it up (which is really bad for me). the noise is relatively loud and it becomes annoying after some hours of use

something else, we had to change the sound slots one time as they are from plastic and they stop functioning properly in you plug-unplug few times your headphones-speakers

    thats for now!

Just to clear this up, the silver grey bits on the VGN-FS are magnesuim alloy metal (like the VGN-FE), which gives a quality feel, and ensures strength. Sony states this on their UK website. I was looking at the brand new VGN-FS415M which has just been released and the chassis is definately metal, i am not doubting that your laptop may be plastic, it could just be that older VGN-FS is made of plastic.
