Hi guys my optical drive no longer works in my VGN-FS570 and I would like to replace it with say a pioneer or maybe LG drive however looking at the laptop it would appear that I will need to remove all the screws and totally dismantle the laptop in order to gain access to the old optical drive is this a correct assumption?

Now on my old Toshiba I could simply flick a switch and remove the optical drive easily I guess that would be too simple for Sony :(

Could anyone offer some assistance on this as I really would like to do the replacement myself.

It will probably require complete disassembly. It's possible that there's only one screw holding it in place that's accessable on the base of your laptop, if so remove it and you might be able to slide the drive out.
