    Hello Everyone,

I bought the Sony Vaio VGN-FZ250 with the default Sound card and everything that is sold with it. I have not added any External Sound Card.

My Sound Quality is extremely Poor. I can hardly hear anything. Even watching a movie is sometimes impossible for me even with full volume.

Can you please help regarding Volume Settings. How do I increase this.

This is normal with the built in speakers. Get some decent external speakers.

Remember that often times there are TWO volume controls, a system volume which you see in the "Notification Area" aka System Tray and also a volume control in the application itself.

Now having said that, the volume available in the FZ series is not that great. But I have to say it appears to be a software issue. For example Winamp, in its Equalizer section, has a "pre-amp" slider that will boost levels digitally, PRIOR to handing the digitized signal over to the audio card. And bumpng that can result in a decent level for things played through Winamp. I have noticed very little distortion attributed to the amplifier in the FZ.

But the best overall solution is an external speaker. I bought, and subsequently lost, one of the little X-Mini pop-up speakers. (A small black orb about the size of a golf ball. You twist it and it springs apart to increase it's height by a bit.) It was USB powered and took a stereo feed and made it mono. But the sound was fantastic. An amazing amount of bass for such a small size. A cleverly tuned cabinet design accounts for that. (I am part owner of a recording studio.) They recently announced a stereo pair of these which I am awaiting before I replace my lost one.
