    Hi all,

I bought a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ250E about a month back. I was shipped Windows Vista along with it. I am more fond of Windows xp as it is much faster. Hence I formatted the system while not creating a Windows Vista Recovery disk.

I booted with the Windows XP cdrom and it started the Windows XP setup. When I clicked Enter to start the setup it gave me following error.

Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer

Make Sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly Connected to your computer..........
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .or setup program,

Setup cannot Continue. To quit setup, Press F3.

Again my machine is a Sony VAIO VGN-FZ250E

I tried a Windows XP Home Edition.

Yeah, you're gonna have to create a new XP install CD with the drivers slipstreamed. It sounds kinda scary if you're not a computer nerd but I assure you it sounds more daunting than it really is. The process in a nutshell is simple. Extract your CD to ISO (or the illegal ISO you downloaded, find it), then you download the drivers for the SATA hd from the intel site. You have to use a simple program that adds the drivers into the ISO you made/have. After that you burn it and you install XP like normal. Just do a search on these forums or on google for the specific information. I lost all mine when I did the XP downgrade.

BTW, if you did a low-level format, your data is still on the harddrive. Before going back to XP completely, I'd recommend getting your Vista back up and running, burn those recovery disks, and then go to XP. It's always good to have the recovery disks in case something awful happens. At the very least you can go back to factory conditions, or you just may get the itch for vista again some day.
