I saw this on the Sony Website... the Sony Vaio VGN-FZ31Z ( view link here)
It comes with a 8600M GS GPU... what is game performance like on this using the 1280x800 resolution and this graphics card on a game such as Counter Strike Source or Call of Duty 4?
Another thing is the slower hard drive at 4200rpm, whats the impact on performance in terms of gaming and general windows vista use?
The rest of the spec seems pretty decent using a T8300 core, and 4GB RAM, as well as plenty of interfaces including HDMI, also a Blu-ray disc drive.
Also does anyone have any general opinion on this laptop or has this laptop?

sounds expensive
! but good. I have the 8600 GS in my laptop, though not a sony I can tell you it works well with older games and games like portal half life and team fortress!. I really have been considering getting call of duty 4 but I if I did that I'd never get any work done haha.

because the resolution is lower, im wondering if this would push the graphics slightly less, so it would compensate for not having a 8600 card...
In general i do like the looks of the FZ, but i could get a better specced Compal for less. I guess im just buying the name Sony really.
I be interested in people's opinions on the FZ series... -
Opinion? more like an obsession hehehehe lol
I have been watching the high end FZ range for a while and nearly bought the 21Z back in November but decided to wait for the FZ31Z (especially when i found out what specs it would have)!
I am glad to say i am now the proud owner of one and it is brilliant.
Dont get me wrong the 21Z was great but this is a beast considering how reasonably priced it was even at retail price (£1299 but i got it for £1140) on discount
First of all, buying a sony brings more than what is mentioned on your average spec sheet. The build quality is by superior to brands like HP, Dell, Mac etc. Theres a lot of nice little touches and the overall sturdyness/build (on pretty much all VAIOs) is great. I'm a salesman and i sell Tosh, Sony, Samsung, HP and Macs but the VAIOs are my personal favourite.
Rainbow six vegas killed my 1G, 256mb 6800 ultra gpu, 3.oghz dual core cpu PC. The laptop ran it perfectly (outputted to my 42" plasma). The minimum requirements for that game is a 3.0ghz cpu so it advised me not to play it but what did it know(newer cpu's have lower clock speeds but perform a lot better than older pentium 4's with higher clock speeds). Although, i played rainbow six raven shield on it and though it ran it at an amazing 226 FPS/frames per second (75 being the highest my pc ever reached), when i moved my player it went in slow-mo! there was no lag with any other part (no enemy delay or delay on bullets hitting target) so it was weird. Could be cos its an old game and maybe i need an update or driver for it or something (if someone know what this could be, please help)?
Anyway m8, the laptop is brilliant. Amazing performance for the price. The ability to burn and play blu ray disks outputted to a HD screen at 1080p! Lots of nice little touches. All in a understated sexy package!
I'm getting it customised soon (having the back of the lid sprayed black to match the black and chrome of my PS3) so i will post the images up! Also im gonna have this image put on the back (just made it quickly but im gonna sharpen it up)!

If you are considering buying this, look no further. Best specs you will get (unless of course you spend a bomb on building an overpriced machine like an alienware). Very nice laptop and im a very happy bunny -
Thanks My Dear Friend
