    Hi..

I have just downgraded my T7200 CPU to an T2300 so that the CPU temperature could go down. And that it did. from 68 degrees to 45 degrees in idle :) but stil the fan is going at it at full speed even at 45 degrees.

I found a post on this forum were a person says that the BIOS has to flashed whit an modede version of the bios file. But how do I make a moded bios or could someone do it for me?

Its from this topic that I found out that the BIOS has to be changed so that the fan only runs when it needs to and not when it works under normal idle CPU loads:

Can anyone help me getting my Sony VGN-SZ48GN fan noise down to a reasonable level?

BTW why is C1E disable on the VGN-SZ48GN and how do I enable it?

Changing the BIOS is very tricky.

Those temps are of yours are still quite high especially for idle state.

Have you tried RM Clock, if you haven't may be you could have a go at underclocking your CPU.

Have you also tried using Sony power management to set your fans to speed 1? Use power saver when you surf as well.

Also, if you haven't disabled unecessary prorgams at start up i would suggest that you do so.

When you replaced your CPU if you didn't use a good thermal compound like Artic 5 I would also suggest you to do that.

I have the bios Ver.R0112N0 on the laptop and I have used the Arctic Cooling MX-2 past on the CPU when i replaced it and cleaned the fan/cooling grill whit an vacuum cleaner. But last night I used some canned air to clean the fan and cooling system some more although I couldn’t see any dust particles. But the cleaning whit canned air helped a little more. Now the idle starts at 38 c to 42 c depending on the operation mod I’ am in. Running full 3dmark 2 times in a row whit Geforce GPU and power plugged in don’t go pas the 60 c mark any more. My max temp is now 58 c. But still the fan is running all the time. Maybe it is running at lowest possible speed. But I would like to get it to run at passive when on battery mode/office mode. And yes I have Sony power management installed and using. But I am using Windows Xp on if that has any thing to say. Even my old Compaq laptop is running passively cooled up to 50 c first then the fan is activated. On the Vaio laptop the fan runs at low speed even at 38 C .

    Link to Arctic Cooling MX-2:

So my last option was to change the values on the BIOS and flash it whit the new settings. So that the laptop could be more quiet in battery mode. I think changing Active strip point value to 63 C would be enough and then enabled Thermal control circuit TCC, C1E and what ells power saving features Sony have killed of in the BIOS.

BTW can any one that have used the VGN-SZ48GN model tell what the temperatures of the T7200 CPU are at normally?
