I am the proud owner of a new Sony Vaio VGN-Z31WN/B, bought in Germany, so it's a European model Z-series. It's got the following specs:

    2,66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo-processor P9600
    4 GB DDR3
    320 GB SATA 5400 rpm
NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS 256 MB

For the full specs, see this link:
    http://vaio.sony.co.uk/view/ShowPro...ns&category=VN+Z+Series&assetid=1218032875600

It came pre-installed with Windows Vista 32 bit, fully loaded with a bunch of apps I dont need. Besides, I dont speak German very well, so I decided to try my copy of Windows 7 Ultimate Edition 64 bit.

The thing is, I can't get to install everything properly. I've been reading up on some other Z series users experiences, but to be honest, I can't seem to figure out exactly what to do, and I alwats mess up at some point.

Is there someone who can tell me exactly what to do, to get everything up and running under 64 bit Windows 7?

When you say you can't get to install everything properly, what exactly is your problem?

    - Same drivers as Vista x64 fresh install
    - Fn keys will work
    - Same Nvidia driver as Vista x64. Only the brightness won't work

    Dear NHT,

I have spent lots of time readin up on the topic, perhaps I am just plain dumb, but I haven't solved it yet... I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. Perhaps you can send me a link of a topic that has *the* solution?

Would surely be appreciated. Please dont think I am lazy, I have spent the last three evenings on this issue and my wife is getting pissed off at me...

    help!

Search the drivers for the Z41WD/B in Sony Europe. They are all x64!

It´s that for sure! I´ve installed Vista x64 on my Z21 (came with x86) and all worked fine. Remember that you have to install in the appropriate order (i think there´s a lot of posts here in the forum), and all will be fine, but no brightness control in W7 x64 in speed mode (no driver yet). The fingerprint software for W7 you can find at Upek Site. Cheers.

Just for confirmation purposes, and perhaps for other users browsing this topic in the future, is this the correct order?

    1-Sony Programmable IO Control
    2-Sony Firmware Extension Parser
    3-Sony Shared Library
    4-Sony Setting Utility
    5-Sony VAIO Event Service
    6-VAIO Control Center
    7-VAIO Power Management
    8-Sony ISB Utility
    9-Sony HDD Protection Filter Driver
    10-VAIO CAMERA CAPTURE UTILITY
    11-VAIO SMART NETWORK 2.1_ 2.1.00.07300
    12-PROTECTOR_SUITE_QL_5.6.2.4286
    13-WWAN_CONNECTION_MANAGER_2.3.0.630

    Humm... Try this order: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/support-info.pl?info_id=172#install
This may be the correct one...
