I am having trouble and can't get there, I have tried to install XP and now can't get windows to load all the way. I guess I thought there was a standard manufacturer they used that I could look up prices on, I was looking to upgrade to a larger storage by the same manufacturer if possible.

I'm willing to bet that Sony, like virtually all computer OEM's, uses a variety of brands of hard drives. And I'm curious why you want the same manufacturer? Is it a brand loyalty thing (unlikely since you don't know the brand)? Because it doesn't matter -- all laptop ATA drives are interchangeable and conform to the same specs. Just find a drive you like and install it, there's nothing to be gained from trying to stick with the same mfg of the OEM drive. The only thing you need to know is whether the drive is SATA or PATA.
