Hi, everyone!
Yesterday my Intel storage helper (or whatever the program is called) started going crazy telling me my hard drive encountered an error and giving me a choice to reset some setting which seemed to fix the problem for about 5 minutes, after that all sorts of programs started crashing all the time and I got system messages how a problem with my hard drive was encountered and I may lose all of my data if I don't back up.
Right now when I boot my laptop I get a system message just after bios start up saying a hard drive failure may be imminent. After I log on to windows I get about 5 crashes, Kaspersky included and when i try to save any image via Chrome the browser crashes (which I find pretty damn hilarious) - might have something to do with the default save location folder being corrupted?
ANYWAY I've decided to buy a new hard drive but I cant figure out what sort of drive I need. I used some system analysing tools and have established that my hard drive is WDC WD5000BEVT-26A0RT0 500gb. What I can't understand is if its Sata1 or Sata2. It has a 8MB buffer and 5400 RPM.
After a long time of research I still cant establish if my laptop can run SATA2 drives. So my question is the following: Is it safe to get a SATA2 drive. Can I get a drive with higher buffer and RPM speeds? Do the last 2 even matter that much?
Thanks for reading my question!

Ok ive established via my chipset name that my system supports up to SATA2
So now I only need to know whether the buffer size and RPM can really make a difference and whether its worth getting a hdd with higher than mine (8MB and 5400 RPM respectively)... anyone? -
Honestly, i have had a lot of problems with HHD's they performa badly, make noises, heat alot. I have replaced 4 times HHD on one machine in 1 year period because of failure or malfunction. Probably i made bad choises when purchaseing as i was looking for bigger storage which tend to be the slowest ones... yeah.
Obviously i had enaught and tried out the more expensive SSD. And it was just amazing how it boots now under 10 seconds, loads everything instantly and haven't had any problems for ~ 9 months now with it.
Note this: The slowest component in your compter is always the HHD. So get the fastest one you can afford to make usage enjoyable. -
I've not bought a 750gb wd 7200 16mb sata2 3gbit/s hdd. Thanks for your answer though!
May close thread.
