Well, I generally go through a laptop a year and sometimes more often than that. My Dell XPS went out and while I wait to have it repaired by Dell I went out and purchased a Sony Vaio from Best Buy whom I have boycotted for over a decade for service issues (Sunday, no one else open).

I just started using my trusty Bose NC headphones which has been flawless in the my last two laptops and now get a low hum and static-only when plugged into this Sony.

Does not matter if the battery is in or not, if the laptop is plugged into the a/c adapter and into the wall, hum and static.
Funny thing is, if I place my finger over the HDMI or VGA out connectors, the noise is completely gone.
If I scroll the screen up and down quickly the noise is also gone.
If I Mute the noise is still there.
    Go figure
Any ideas? It has been a little over 2 weeks and Best Buy could care less at this point as their exchange policy is 2 weeks only. So, I will most likely call Amex Platinum service and reverse the charge or have Amex deal with it.

Anyone come across this issue with this laptop that is otherwise a nice little powerful laptop?
    thanks,
