My model is Sony Vaio Z12GN and it's using Intel Core
My fiancee's is Sony Vaio Z26GN and it's using Intel Centrino

    Is it any different?
Weird thing is that I did a fresh installation on both and even though mine is 2gb RAM and hers is 3gb RAM, mine still seems to run faster.

If you look under system information (you can type this in the search box near the start up menu) on both of your laptops then it will tell you what processors both of you are using.

    Oh weird, under the system information its the same;
    - Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8600 @ 2.40Ghz

Why would they put centrino outside the sticker though.
But yeah, mine seems more stable then hers and faster too~
Programs installed are all the same. Any ideas?
Perhaps it has something to do with the VAIO settings?

It's very strange, because yours should definiely be slower - the z12 has a 5400 RPM drive, the Z26 has a 7200rpm drive...

Yes. Make sure both are set in max. performance and the memory is set in performance mode.

Also make sure both are set on speed mode with the switch above the keyboard.

If the difference is still the same after that it might be interesting to run a benchmark on both to determine if there's actually a difference and what part is causing the difference.

PC Mark Vantage is such a benchmark, but WEI (Windows Experience Index) is easier to do since it's already on your computer.

How do you set the memory in performance mode? Always at Vaio Control Center?

Yes, there's usually an option in the Vaio Control center.

With the G in my sig I can choose between 400MHz and 533MHz.

Intel Core (or Intel Core 2 Duo) are the actual processors. When they say "Intel Core 2 inside" designation only, that means they are only using Intel's chipset and processor, but not Intel's weireles interface.

Centrino is a marketing platform for laptop computers in particular by Intel which consists of Intel's mobile CPU, Intel's wireless network interface, and Intel's chipset. So, to have a "Centrino" logo, the laptop must have all three of the intel's product.

Without a doubt both your laptops probably have all three of these products. The one that says "Intel Core" just probably doesn't have the wireless interface made by Intel, but by another vendor.

Are you sure it isn't G series specific?
My SZ (!) doesn't seem to have that option - and the Z is the direct successor of the SZ.

I am sure. My TZ had it too ;)

But yeah not every Sony laptop will have it.

I wonder if the G and TZ had it because they were ultraportables.

Any update on whether this is available on the Z??

(although my RAM, accoring to CPU-Z does run at 333MHz ??? - there was a thread about that ages ago, no solution, and really it doesn't bother me, I think...)

If you don't see it in Vaio Control Center you probably don't have it.

Centrino isn't a CPU type. It's a marketing term for a machine that uses Intel-based motherboard, CPU and WiFi.

Perhaps it has something to do with her being a woman, and more concerned with convenience and appearance than optimization and technical details?
There are, undoubtedly, women who will turn off services that aren't needed, set up a sensible defragmentation schedule, delete old files in %TEMP%, get rid of bloatware, or adjust the AV software to exclude files and folders that can't possibly become infected. But without being sexist, I will claim that the percentage of men who optimize their computers is much higher than the percentage of women who do so.

I have a Z11WN, and I remember this option of changing the memory bus when I installed for a while XP. It was right there to Control Center. Now, in Vista can't find it!
