When I open an audio file with Windows Media Player, it takes about 3 seconds before it plays. The same thing happens whenever I jump to a different part of the track. It has been like this since I first got it. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I have 3 GB of RAM installed, so memory probably isn't the problem. The audio files are on my notebook's internal hard drive. The HD's speed is 5400 rpm, same as most other notebooks.

In Windows Media Player, right-click the title bar, and choose "Options". In the "Player" tab, make sure that "Download codecs automatically" and "Connect to the Internet" are NOT checked.

Then repeat for the "Privacy" tab, unchecking at least "Display media information from the Internet" and "I want to help make Microsoft ..."
If you really want to have WMP fetch information about every file you play from the internet, you'll pay the price of waiting for that info.
