When do guys suspect the next refresh for the Sony Vaio will arrive?

What features do you guys think will be attached to the release?

I'm hoping for 1920 resolution along with a little better i7 or nicer graphics card.

    Thoughts?

The refresh usually every 6months. So in the next 2 - 3 months expect a slight processor increase, a couple more CTO options and maybe a slight price drop.

They won't release a NEW model for probably another 2 years...

Pretty much all retail notebooks (hp/tosh/acer/sony, etc.) will refresh early June and go on ad the 3rd week of June. June 20th to be specific.

There will be no significant changes until the next completely new design in Spring of 2012 (assuming the Myans were incorrect).

I made a fairly detailed post somewhere else recently on what I'd expect to be made available over the next 2 years on the Z, but basically it's going to be very minor for the next refresh, and you probably won't see any plug-and-play upgrades (ie. a new GPU) until around the 4th refresh.

expect processer improvements, different memory configs, new lid designs only.
im holding out specifically for a better processor...experience has left me wishing id waited for previous models several times over the years.
usb 3 inclusion would bbe sweet, but doubtful.

Is it just a matter of people always wanting a higher processer? I mean technology is always developing, you can never have a definite processor or graphics card. You have to assess the quality of the interiors with whats avaiable in this generation not the next.

Core i5/i7s hold plenty of power for most, if not all of us right now.

Some are satisfied even with the CULV/Ion laptops.

btw the refreshes in japan are every 3 months or so. processer wise it will be a few more ghz - in japan the z90 peaked at 2.8, then z91 at 2.93ghz and the z93 weighed in with 3.06ghz. so its a bit more ummph for hanging on a short while.

i bought a Z90 with the agonising wrench of having to choose between ssd and blueray as they were not available together to begin with. so i opted for blue ray.....but yes youve guessed it, i then sold that and bought the 91js with 256gbssd.

the new model is about 30% faster with improved quad ssd and processor, but not enough to justify a new purchase just yet if you catch my drift. so by holding out, i will get a slightly faster pc without feeling im totally wasting my money :) of course 512gb ssd is much more complete for my usage and bearing in mind that the new hi res screen is going to take a bit more processing grunt to make best use of it!

I'm hoping to pick one up during July because I plan on undergoing a semester long Study Abroad excursion to europe starting in August. You think it will surface before then?

Going with previous patterns of refreshes to a product line from Sony, I'm personally expecting to see a refresh (not re-design, if someone is mistaken) to the VAIO Z line during July-September. :) Keep in mind that a lot of times, these refreshes depend largely on what new CPUs Intel are releasing for that particular period of time. :( Good luck. :)

Is Intel even planning on releasing new i7s that would be appropriate by summer? We already have the best i7 available that the Z could work with.

Next model is almost assuredly going to be what, 2.8GHz... doesn't seem worth waiting for.

I haven't heard anything out of the Intel or Nvidia for a while. Normally buy now you have an idea of what is coming next from them (fermi for laptops and intel with shrink the die again eventually). I think the next refresh will be price based and maybe ssd based (as prices are dropping so damn quickly now). Maybe faster SSD's? Maybe a couple of colours? I don't think the processors will change to the end of the year...

Well Intel is planning a refresh of the current Arrandale Core i3/i5/i7's for the middle of this year, and they will be more power efficient over current ones. Then Sandy Bridge is out in Q1 2011 and replaces Arrandale with a new generation of Core i's. Have no idea when Fermi will be out for notebooks. But I could see a Z refresh around back to school with the refreshed Arrandale's.

Asus already have a Fermi based laptop in there lineup. It isn't released as yet, but it does show that it is going to happen soon enough.

What models are intel planning for the middle of the year? Got any info I can read?

    Thank you.

So far known are the Core i7-740QM/840QM/940XM quad cores, and some new ulv's (Celeron U3400, Core i5-540UM, and Core i7-660UM). Also a Celeron P4300 is being introduced. No news on standard voltage Core i3/i5/i7's.
