I am thinking of purchasing the new Sony Vaio Z Series Z-1190 from Sony Style USA.

When I browse Japanese Sony Style site regarding to the new Vaio Z, it says that it has Sound Reality, which enhances sound quality, but in Sony Style USA, it just says Intel® High Definition Audio. Does the US model have Sound Reality?

    Thank you in advance.

Seems like it's part of Sigma's standard Sony VAIO package, so I'm sure it comes with it. Sony seems to put a lot of effort into these systems, but doesn't bother to advertise or tell anyone about 90% of it (this has been their issue for years with almost all of their products).

    New Sound Reality technology
Oct 5, 2005 9:50 PM, Audio Technology Update

New Sony VAIO desktop PCs will now feature professional theater quality sound based on the new Sound Reality processor, which features technology from SigmaTel.

The Sound Reality technology is a combination of SigmaTel's theater quality eight-channel HD audio codec and Sony's DSD technology.

Powered by SigmaTel's eight-channel HD audio codec, multimedia PCs like Sony's new VAIO PC Type R, Type H and Type V computers were introduced for the Japanese market last month. The VAIO RC series and selected models in the RB series now available in the U.S. Additionally, these new PCs are compatible with the new Intel High Definition Audio standard providing compatibility with any Windows-compatible software.

Thank you very much for the information Sunfox.

But since I confirmed that last year core2Duo Model Vaio Z series didn't have Sound Reality in Japanese Edition, I thought the new Vaio Z US edition continued not to include Sound Reality because it's not showed up on their web page, while Japanese Z series started to include Sound Reality from this spring's core i model.

Currently, in Japanese model, only Vaio Z, T, J, and L has Sound Reality, and not F, A, S, etc.

If you or someone have the new core i Vaio Z ordered in the US, can you please check in your control panel to see if there is an option for Sound Reality?

I have a Japanese Vaio SZ that has a Sound Reality, and there is an option for Sound Reality in Control Panel like a picture below, marked with a red square.

For the US SZ Series, Sony Style US clearly says that Sound Reality is included on its Specification page.

    Thanks.

Sigmatel is no longer a product and hasn't been offered to consumers through OEMs for a while, as the Wiki states, Freescale Semiconductor purchased Sigmatel and pretty much annexed the company and laid off workers.

I am definetely curious to find out what type of audio reproduction the vaio has (primarily for use with earphones) referencing how well it decodes DTS Master Audio from blu ray tracks.
