    Hello Everyone,

I was just wondering if there was a way to do a clean install of Vista (preferably Ultimate 64-bit) on the Vaio Z and have functioning s1/s2 and speed/stamina and Wlan controls. I found the guide for 7, I was wondering if there was something like it for vista, or at least a place where i can get the drivers. My viao Z came with alot of "bloatware", and i'd like to have it snappy.

    Thanks,

    Thomas

Not Piracy since it will only work if you computer was preloaded with Vista meaning you have the license already (Vista Software Licensing will check if you have the Vista Licensing Table in the BIOS) otherwise the method on the blog will fail.
It is exactly how the preloaded SONY factory image is activated it is just for this you are doing the activation manually.

Why bother using those guides when we have ABR (Activation back up and restore). See here and download here

It just backs up your activation, you can activate it on either 32/64bit of the same version (basic, home premium, ultimate) on the same machine.

You just need to back up your activation once and you can activate as much clean installs as you want.

qhn: Those arent exactly COA licence keys. They are just OEM certificate keys which is all the same for that brand/version. You cant use a home premium cert to activate ultimate. Those keys are different from what you see underneath your notebook.

    Yes thats correct

Some OEM's, like Dell will even send you a 64bit Vista disc upon request. Your 32bit OEM key will work on 64bit (as long as you install same version on same machine). You just need to get hold of a 64bit installation media and x64 drivers.

There are arguments that you can only use the same architecture that came with your notebook/OEM licence. But that is untrue, a clean install of x64 over your x86 will activate and authenticate fine with MS

Theres really not much difference between 32bit and 64bit. They are practically identical. Theres really no extra features between the two other than memory addressing capabilities.

endor43 so your laptop came with Vista Ultimate 64bit installed? All Z's now ship with a 64bit OS.
This thread should be helpful to you, it is about the 32bit operating system but the same basic steps should apply.

Just download the drivers and utilities what you need instead.

I am totally aware of this. And the OEM certificates belong to the manufacturers and not the users. A way for Microsoft to make it simple for system builders.

The steps outlined in weinter's blog had been discussed long ago, and it was in the understanding of hacking under the name of "OEM BIOS Emulation Toolkit For Windows Vista x86 v1.0", short for describing a way of stealing.

One can read the article (one of many) in full here:

    cheers ...

    It is not stealing
It will work only if your BIOS has certain "characteristics" that Vista will recognize.
I will not go into details just so you know it is not illegal if you laptop came with Vista and will only work if your laptop came with Vista.
It is only right we are able to do this as most factory image are loaded with crapware we don't want.
Removing them takes even longer than installing Vista

This OEM Tool you mention tries to emulate that your BIOS have the "characteristics" that Vista will recognise such are cracks which are not recommended.
For 1 Microsoft comes out with update to detect that emulation breaking the system essentially.
While my method does not emulate anything but if your laptop came with Vista OEM Preloaded it has the BIOS characteristic Vista will recognise hence it will make use of it to activate Vista legally since you have OEM license on your laptop.
