I uninstalled a conferencing utility and doing so broke the battery care function.

The care function is on, cannot be turned off, and happens to be using the setting I had, which is 50%. (I earlier installed the battery checker; this popped up a dialog telling me it thought my battery wasn't connected. I note also when I left click on the battery icon in the taskbar, the listed power plan (I have just the one - I removed the others) is not selected and selecting does not stick - when you close the small window that pops up and re-open it, the plan is again unselected. Something somewhere is broken - but where? what?)

I've just tried uninstalling all Sony drivers and putting them back in (in the correct order, of course) and this hasn't helped.

Right now it looks to me like a full OS reinstall is going to be required, which makes me sick - at MS for the OS, at the conf utility for messing up my laptop on uninstall, at Sony for having no viable customer support and a crazy complicated set of drivers with no documentation.

Has anyone run into this problem? has anyone fixed this problem without reinstalling the OS?
