hey guys, ive been following the Z series for a couple of months now, just waiting on any good deals to pull the trigger. I know alot of you managed to get deals by calling into Sony or w/e, but apparently thats not the case with Canada, which sucks.
Anyways the point of my post is, does anyone know if there are any good deals on the Vaio Z, or if anyone knows when the sony style cananda will offer promotions like the Spring150 they had a while back. I know i can order from J&R and get the Z122GX/B and its something like 2100ish CAD after tax and shipping. But i was hoping to get a CTO with premium carbon, and the 1080p screen, i think that would net me about 2350 CAD total. Which is just a bit over my budget of 2k.
So does anyone know if sony is going to have a promotion or anything at all before Septemeber, i mean i could just spend the extra 350 over my budget, but i just dont feel like im getting a good deal even after waiting for almost 2 months for it to go down a couple hundred.

I purchased my z during the March Madness sale and got $200 off but since then Sony's stuff doesn't really go on sale. Bear in mind you are buying a premium notebook that doesn't really need to go on sale since they refresh every 4 months and they have trouble keeping up with CTO demand.
I'm in Canada also and thats why I pulled the March Madness promo. -
Other than a 300-400 dollar discount from Sony there are no deals here, especially from the higher specced models.
This is a premium model, so you will have to pay the premium price.
I see the included Adobe bundle and free 1080 screen already as deals. -
so you guys think i should just stop waiting around for even like a small promo, cause itll most likely stay the same price until the end of august, and just buy it now?
-
Dude, if you are going to do the J&R pre built Z112 route, why no go through TD and get the $257 in BCB.
-
how do u go through TD and get 257 BCB? sorry im kinda new to this, and does it work even if im in Canada? TD is tiger direct? i dont think they ship to canada

Seems like the only way to get a 1080p screen is to choose the Configure-to-Order (CTO) option on Sony's website. I can't find any other website that has the 1080p screen OR the Blu-Ray.
And after July 3rd they stopped offering the 1080p screen resolution upgrade for free; it now costs $100 to upgrade the screen.
If you're considering the 1080p screen, were you also going to spring for a Blu-Ray? The only reason I feel like I would want/need a 1080p screen is if I was also getting the Blu-Ray drive. -
How does it work in the US with sales tax when shopping online? Some of the online shopping sites dont seem to charge sales tax if you get it delivered to a state outside of the state they are based in (i.e. not store pick-up)?
Will you get charged with the tax at a later time or how does it work? -
Anyone who makes internet purchases in which they were not charged tax is required by law to report the total amount of those purchases on their income tax return so that they pay the sales tax they normally would pay at the time of purchase.
In practice practically no one bothers to do this reporting, and sites like Amazon.com have been under ever-increasing pressure to either start charging sales tax OR report the names and amounts of the people they're selling to. Yesterday, I saw this article about the subject. -
I actually bought one. -
Most online retailers don't charge CARF either. Microsoft and Staples explicitly say they pay the CARF for the buyer. -
-
You might as well.
A couple of years from now, you will certainly not regret it.
-
Does Sony Style Canada offer any sort of student discount? I believe you can get 10% off Sony Style US, which for a $2000 laptop is still good.
-
Anyone know where to find a good deal on a Z? Not necessarily a Z12.

Since this is a state tax and not a federal tax, both the tax amount and the enforcement varies wildly between states. A couple of states have no sales/use tax at all, while the rest have somewhere between 4% and 10%.
This is much lower than the GST/VAT in Europe, but it's cumulative unless you're a registered business (and sometimes even then). I.e. if I buy an item for $1000, I have to pay sales tax on it, and if I mod it and sell it to you for $1500, you have to pay tax on a $1500 purchase.
In Europe, the tax is only on the added value (thus value added tax), so while I would collect tax on $1500, I would only send the tax on $500 to the government, and keep the rest to offset the tax I paid myself. -
