    Hello people,

2 month ago i bought an Vaio S (15", i7, 2.2 Ghz, 12 GB Ram, 256GB SSD) and I am using this with a Matrox dualhead2Go. My choise was based on performance as this has a better Video card and 4 GB of extra RAM (at 1333mHz instead of 1600 like the Z version). The problem with this is that I want to buy another monitor but the Matrox cards only go up to 1920 x 1200 / monitor so I would like to get an Vaio Z with the PMD so i can hook up to 3 external monitors that can support higher resolutions than the Matrox option.

My question is: what is the highest resolution supported by this external Radeon unit? 2560x1440 ?

    Thanks in advance!

Have a look at the comments: Vaio Z3, first impressions | frans goes blog

It's only 1920 x 1200px. As I already mentioned in the link above, I'm now using an USB 3.0 to DisplayPort adapter for my 30" Dell (2560 x 1600px). Had to buy an active DisplayPort to Dual-Link-DVI-Adapter to make it work reliably though, but that's a problem of the old Dell 3008WFP.

So my setup is as follows:

    1x 1920 x 1080px internal SVZ display
1x 2560 x 1600px Dell 30" using USB 3.0 to DisplayPort adapter with DisplayLink technology, attached to the USB 3.0 port of the PMD
1x 1280 x 1024px old Sony TFT attached to the main unit via HDMI, not(!) to the PMD

Why not use the HDMI port of the PMD for the Sony? Well, I tried, but the performance of the DisplayLink unit was bad then, stuttering and drop outs when using the Radeon.
Now the external graphics unit isn't in use (which also means lower fan noise since the PMD also has an inbuilt fan), Intel HD 4000 is driving the screen of my SVZ plus the Sony one and the LightPeak connection is only used for USB 3.0 transfer, Blu-ray drive and the external sound card.

To cut a long story short: everything above single link isn't natively supported by the SVZ/PMD. Bummer!

Edit: you might as well try the .inf-hack mentioned above or just keep your VAIO S and buy an USB graphics adapter like the one I'm using. That would probably be the cheapest solution.

That was clear enough i guess, i thought it will be a hassle-free multiple monitor output with a higher resolution, thanks for sharing these informations with me!

How did your 3.0 to DisplayPort go? Does it eat up a lot of CPU resources? Is it possible to play HD videos/or even games on the Dell 30'' through this setup? Thanks!

I'm also curious about the performance using the DisplayLink adapter. Also, why didn't you connect the USB 3.0 adapter to the Z's USB port instead of the PMD's USB port. Have you tested this? If so, was performance noticeably different?

Also, wouldn't you be getting the benefit of the PMD's graphics acceleration regardless of which ports your monitors are plugged in to?

Thanks in advance for any further clarification you can offer. You have the exact setup I had intended to go with and I want to be sure it will meet my needs before I import a Vaio Z from Japan.
