I originally wanted to buy a Lenovo T400 but when I saw it up close, it was too heavy and the X series didn't have the specs that I wanted so I'm thinking of buying the Sony Vaio Z540 with the following specs:

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P9500 (2.53GHz)
Microsoft® Windows Vista® Business with Service Pack 1
    4 GB DDR3-SDRAM (DDR3-1066, 2GBx2)
200 GB SATA Hard Disk Drive [7200 rpm]
    LCD 13.1" (XBRITE-DuraView™)
    DVD +/- R DL / DVD +/- RW / DVD-RAM Drive
Trusted Platform Module / Biometric Fingerprint Sensor
Wireless LAN (802.11a/b/g/n) with integrated Bluetooth® technology
    Extended Battery (BPL12)

Does anyone have experience with this laptop? How's the keyboard? Does the computer overhead since it's small?
    Any feedback would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

It doesn't overheat (at least the SZ7 doesn't)
The keyboard - I love it, some hate it.

And just wondering - SZ5 ??? The latest model is the SZ7 series...UK sells the SZ6 though...

Your specs should also be fine for most things.

Also: Are you getting it cheap??

You may want to have a look at the Z series.

Remember, the SZ is tried an tested though, the Z isn't.

DetlevCM: He didn't say SZ540 - notice that in the thread title and in the post he mentions Z540, not SZ :)

I've felt the keyboard in a store display, and IMO it feels very very good. Compared to most other keyboards of it's type it's vastly superior - longer stroke, firmer keypress, better tactile response. Very nice overall. Most reports from early owners of the Z are also extremely positive regarding the keyboard.

Regarding heating/cooling, so far people are reporting that it keeps very cool - core temperature idles at around 40C, which is very cool. Externally, it gets only slightly warm to the touch - not hot (although I'm just repeating what I read).

Yea I'm talking about the Z series NOT the SZ. I've had the SZ before and it kept overheating on me, so I don't want the same thing to happen with the Z.

    Ups...
    :D Ah well, happens.
Hmm... my SZ doesn't overheat, so maybe it was due to your surroundings.

When I had a look at the new style keyboard (not on an SZ) I hated it...
But then, I like old things...
