    Model: SVE171C11M
    Windows 8

For the last few weeks now my laptop has been going through stages where it will stop responding but sometimes was usuable but now it's just constantly not responding, the yellow light drive indicator is constantly lit and it often goes to the blue screen with error code: KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR(luafv.sys).
In the past I've also had others like PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA.

Anyone got any ideas what the problem could be?

Looks like you're getting the infamous Blue Screen of Death. A quick google search shows that these can be caused by:

Memory, Paging file corruption, File system, Hard drive, Cabling, Virus infection, Improperly seated cards, BIOS, Bad motherboard, Missing Service Pack.

If you are still under warranty I would definitely take it in.

Also, I would try to locate what caused this to start because that can give you much better answers.

Main suspect - HDD/SSD. Run a SMART utility and see what the report says. I'm assuming you've done the usual antivirus and malwarebytes scans. How does it behave in safe mode?

Might be worth checking the connections between the motherboard and the HDD/SSD. A bad power connection to the drive also manifests itself like this.

Did you recently install a new program, software, hardware or driver to the system, as sometimes these can be caused by badly programmed drivers too.

I removed pretty much everything I installed or downloaded on it going as far back to before the problems started.

I agree with anytimer. Sounds like a dying hard drive. Save any important stuff onto a flash drive and then run a utility that will check the SMART status of the hard drive.
