Hi all,
I've created a few instructions for taking apart Sony Vaio laptops. I hope they are useful.

Any service manuals for VGN-FW series?
-
Great, maybe the moderator should post a new thread fro the AR series, and add this pdf to it? Just an observation
-

People
Aand What about AW Series ??? -
It is MicroDIMM DDR333 172-pin. You can buy some on ebay.

I would really appectiate a link for the SR series as well. Thanks!!!!
-
Thanks so much for doing this. I spent hours trying to find guides to disassembly my vaio. It would have been impossible without your guide.
Again, Thanks!!! -
I have successfully disassembly a VAIO VGN-FW290 flawlessly.
I wanted it open because my power cable connector was loose, probably because of an unwanted hit (that cracked the magnesium alloy support). Because I was on a hurry I couldn't make a picture guide. And because I used it on a daily basis I can't afford dissasembling it to make a step by step guide.
If anyone want some advice or is stucked somewhere I wouldn't mind helping.
But if you have patience you will probably figure out for yourself, there are no tricks or hidden screws. It's just reverse engineering for the assembly process. -
Can I ask some quick question about how to remove heatsink from my Vaio SZ series please?
As you can see in the picture, I can't remove that screw. I tried to apply more force on it, but it just wouldn't budge. I think the other screw underneath that one requires the same screwdriver's size right?? I can remove that one relatively easy, but not the other one
Any help right now would be appreciate

Anyone have a VGN-TT disassembly manual? Would appreciate one, thanks.
-
How about using the guide for the T series on the first page as reference?
cheers ... -
Anyone knows where to get 1 for the SR36GN series
-
I'm having difficulty finding anything on the VGN-TZ models. Any ideas or have I missed a link already posted?
It is not T series as listed. The keyboard is not removable from the top cover. -
T isn't TT, no removable keyboard, nothing else comparable...
-
anybdy have any guise for the vgn ns series specifically on how to remove keyboard?
-
Yeah I would like to also see a guide for the TT.
-
Give this a shot then?

Is the CPU assembly easily accessible and do you think that the CPU is replaceable? I have a X9100 3.06GHz Extreme and would like to know if it possibly works with the FW... the problem is the heat it genefates at 44W...
-
I believe the CPU is replaceable(not soldered). PM45 chipset should work just fine with the X9100.
-
The PM45 is also the chipset used on the Vaio Z, correct? I only ask this because I got very confused with the issue of the FW using DDR2 vs. the Z using DDR3 while I was under the impression that both used the same Centrino 2 design and therefor the same parts...
-
Yes, the PM45 supports either DDR2 or DDR3. However, the motherboard determines which is used. If your notebook came with DDR2, than that's what you must use.
-
So if I upgraded an FW to DDR3 or downgraded the Vaio Z to DDR2 sticks both laptops would still work properly and the motherboard upon boot would just adapt itself to 800MHz or 1066MHz operation?
-
It's my understanding that the physical connection on the motherboard is different. They are not interchangeable at all.
-
I see... I have been looking at many benchmarks online and the reality is for the most part, there is no performance gain between DDR2-800 and DDR3-1066... in the end, its about the same when it comes to actual real world applications usage...
-
DDR2 standard voltage 1.8v
DDR3 standard voltage 1.5v
DDR3 uses less power. -
Please give us your comments on this thread on Sony Service Manuals:

is there any thread based on vgn-cr series?
-
Hi all and sundry! Does anyone have a link to the VGN-FW series service manuals?
Many thanks in advance. -
would love to see one for the AW.
