It is MicroDIMM DDR333 172-pin. You can buy some on ebay.

I have successfully disassembly a VAIO VGN-FW290 flawlessly.

I wanted it open because my power cable connector was loose, probably because of an unwanted hit (that cracked the magnesium alloy support). Because I was on a hurry I couldn't make a picture guide. And because I used it on a daily basis I can't afford dissasembling it to make a step by step guide.

If anyone want some advice or is stucked somewhere I wouldn't mind helping.

But if you have patience you will probably figure out for yourself, there are no tricks or hidden screws. It's just reverse engineering for the assembly process.

Can I ask some quick question about how to remove heatsink from my Vaio SZ series please?

As you can see in the picture, I can't remove that screw. I tried to apply more force on it, but it just wouldn't budge. I think the other screw underneath that one requires the same screwdriver's size right?? I can remove that one relatively easy, but not the other one

Any help right now would be appreciate :)

I'm having difficulty finding anything on the VGN-TZ models. Any ideas or have I missed a link already posted?

It is not T series as listed. The keyboard is not removable from the top cover.

Is the CPU assembly easily accessible and do you think that the CPU is replaceable? I have a X9100 3.06GHz Extreme and would like to know if it possibly works with the FW... the problem is the heat it genefates at 44W...

I believe the CPU is replaceable(not soldered). PM45 chipset should work just fine with the X9100.

The PM45 is also the chipset used on the Vaio Z, correct? I only ask this because I got very confused with the issue of the FW using DDR2 vs. the Z using DDR3 while I was under the impression that both used the same Centrino 2 design and therefor the same parts...

Yes, the PM45 supports either DDR2 or DDR3. However, the motherboard determines which is used. If your notebook came with DDR2, than that's what you must use.

So if I upgraded an FW to DDR3 or downgraded the Vaio Z to DDR2 sticks both laptops would still work properly and the motherboard upon boot would just adapt itself to 800MHz or 1066MHz operation?

It's my understanding that the physical connection on the motherboard is different. They are not interchangeable at all.

I see... I have been looking at many benchmarks online and the reality is for the most part, there is no performance gain between DDR2-800 and DDR3-1066... in the end, its about the same when it comes to actual real world applications usage...

    DDR2 standard voltage 1.8v
    DDR3 standard voltage 1.5v

    DDR3 uses less power.
