Hi, so I was wondering if anyone could help solve my querie about my Son Vaio laptop.

It's a Sony Vaio PCG-5K2M, and for the almost 2 year period I've had it, I've had no problems at all.

Recently, something must have bashed against it, as I noticed the plastic bars covering what I can only guess is the 'fan' at the back have been snapped off.

By 'fan', i mean the bunch of what looks like copper lines on the left hand side of the laptop, just above "S VIDEO OUT". (Sorry my explanation is bad, I have no technical experience with laptop terms whatsoever).

Ever since the plastic bars were snapped off, the 'fan' at the side has been making 'crackling' noises, and I could have sworn I've seen a few sparks come out the side of it, which alerted me that something isn't right.

The 'crackling' sound isn't all the time, it occurs sometimes, but I'm just curious as has anyone else had a similar problem like this? I'm quite concerned that if I leave it, it'll only get worse and I'll be left with no laptop at all!

And if anyone has the contact details for Sony Vaio UK (preferebly e-mail contact), that'd be great.

    Thanks in advance.

(If this is in the wrong section of the forum, my apologies!)

You should be concerned that if you leave it, it might catch fire and explode.

Anyhow, you should be able to find the phone numbers for service on the Sony Europe web site.

Thanks arth1. Very true about it catching fire, it's a possibility, and I wouldn't like that to happen.

In the mean time, I'll keep it switched off, and switched off by the mains.

I've contacted Sony Support, so thank you for the link aswell! Hopefully I'll get it sorted.
