Basically, Sony is taking the Via Openbook and calling it their own. It will have just as bad performance as the HP Mini note due to its Via C7 processor.

I am waiting on the EEE 901, Dell Mini Inspiron, and Gigabyte M912, all of which are more appealing to me.

As for all those wanting an Sony Vaio mini notebook smaller than the TZ, here it is!

    • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
    • WiMac support
    • 60GB hard disk.

Well I guess the processor might be sufficient for such a small notebook but of course, an intel atom would probably be better. I really hope they're not trying to run vista home premium on this thing...

For the price of all these ultra portables I am considering compromising on an old TZ with Core 2 or even a TX, by the time you spend money on the cheapys, these come into range and are significantly better.

Has this been confirmed or still a rumor? Looks like its still the latter and I hope it stays that way. The Sony brand showing up on the notebook's properties in Vista I hope was a mistake, a typo.

It would be VERY unusual if this is true since Sony has always made their own designs, not selling a rebranded system like Averatec does with some of their notebooks being made from MSI and Twinhead for example.

Come on, Sony is a large computer maker, has much experience in making fantastic ultraportables so why would they rebrand this system when Asus, Dell, MSI, HP and others are making their own unique designs?

Sony make a notebook like this is simply depressing and is quiet frankly damaging to their reputation.

I haven't noticed before but that touchpad looks tiny even for such a small notebook.

I completely agree, I really hope this does not happen. I really want them to make their own mini-notebook, but to make their own beautiful design, not use Via's bland OpenBook design and hopefully use Intel ULV processors. :(

I think they would be better off modifying the UX then using something from Via. The UX is surprisingly good and a device I would trust (if I could actually afford one).

Rahulnirmal, that old sony mini notebook you show pictures of is really cool. Modernizing that would be a good way to go.

Maybe they were slack about getting into this market segment, suddenly realised they were missing out on a piece of the pie and so without the time to R&D a completely new product went with the VIA.

I hope not, but in the end, I'm really not so brand loyal that it bothers me. If sony don't have the goods I'm happy to buy from whoever does.

EEE 901, EEE 1000, and MSI Wind are all looking pretty attractive right now.
