I have a Sony Vaio model PCG-7D2L that belongs to a friend and is dead in the water. In order to have it repaired, Sony wants the Model Number. I am unable to determine the model number because there are no numbers on the hinge or above the keypad, only three labels on the bottom. One has the model number above and the other two are Service Tag: C300L44Y and Product Code: 28199433 S/N 3010588.

I spent about 5 hours on Sony's chat line and on hold at their repair center without getting one bit of help. Their support sucks! Sony wants $29.99, because its out of warranty, just to talk to me about repairing it. Can anyone figure out the model number of this laptop based upon the info given?

Is it really worth fixing? Thanks for any help you might give.

    Don

It's part of the FS700 series of notebooks. VGN-FZ7xx of some sort. It's a few years old, and it's probably cheaper to to get a new NR of some sort to replace it, as notebook repairs out of warranty are never cheap.
